Privacy

The short version: the numbers you type into the calculator are worked out inside your own browser. They are not uploaded, not sent to any server, and not stored.

What happens when you use the calculator

Every calculation on this site runs in your browser, using JavaScript that is already on the page. The distances, times and the exponent you enter stay in your browser's memory. Nothing you type is transmitted to this site or to anyone else, and nothing you type is written to any database, log or file.

Reload the page, close the tab, or switch the machine off, and what you typed is gone. There is no saved history to delete, because none is kept.

What this site does not do

• No accounts and no sign-up. There is no login, no email capture and no mailing list.
• No analytics or tracking written by this site. Not one of the files that make up this site contacts another server or measures a visitor. The single measurement script that does run here is added by the hosting provider, not by us, and it is described under Hosting logs and hosting analytics.
• No cookies set by this site. The calculator sets no cookies and reads none, and it keeps nothing in local storage either.
• No advertising code. No advertising or affiliate script is loaded on this site today.

Hosting logs and hosting analytics

This site is a set of static files served by a third-party hosting provider, Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare records standard request data — such as the IP address the request came from, the browser's user agent, the address requested and the time of the request — for security and for keeping the service running. Those records belong to the hosting provider and are covered by Cloudflare's own privacy policy. The calculator never reads them and never joins them to anything you typed.

Cloudflare also adds its own analytics beacon to the pages served on this domain, at the network edge, before the page reaches your browser. It is not a script this site wrote and it is not something this site asks for: it is added by the host, and it cannot be removed from this site's files. It is the only visitor-measurement script that runs on these pages. What that beacon records, how long it is kept and what Cloudflare does with it are described by Cloudflare, not by this page.

Advertising, and what will change if it arrives

There is no advertising on this site today. Third-party advertising may be added in the future so that the site can stay free.

If advertising is added, the advertising provider will be able to set its own cookies or identifiers in your browser and to collect data under its own privacy policy, and that is outside this site's control. Before any advertising code goes live, this page will be updated to name the provider and to say what it collects. Until you see that update on this page, no advertising code is running.

Changes to this page

If this policy changes, the date below changes with it. The date is the only version marker this page keeps.
